This terminus was a starting point for passengers entering China and was also a computer traffic station and marshalling yard for goods entering Hong Kong from China.

The platform area was entirely covered by a slab roof on to which is built the main concourse and ticket hall, 12,000 seat, fully air conditioned indoor stadium and a multi-storey car park, serving both the stadium and station.

A mechanical ventilation system provided above each track with a series of diameter flameproof rigid glass-fibre ducts being required to provide the necessary air changes.

J Roger Preston Ltd’s appointment included the full mechanical and electrical engineering services and a building automation system.
