J Roger Preston Ltd was engaged by HMT Consort (Hitachi, Mitsubishi, Toshiba) to provide technical design and management assistance for the preparation of tenders to award and completion for the Environmental Control Systems (ECS) of the Mass Transit Railway, Modified Initial System.

The MIS extends 15.6km from Central district on Hong Kong island to the industrial area in Kwun Tong, with twelve underground and three overhead stations.  It was the first underground railway in the world to have entirely air-conditioned trains, tunnels, platforms and concourses.
